SPJ is dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior. SPJ promotes the free flow of information essential to a well-informed public and works to inspire and educate current and future journalists through professional development. SPJ strives to protect the First Amendment to guarantee the freedom of speech and press through its advocacy efforts and it promotes press freedom, journalism ethics and Freedom of Information.
